Caring for Your Ring

Caring for Your Ring

A guide to keeping your Benjamin Rose ring as enduring as the moment it was made for.

PROTECT WHAT MATTERS

HANDLE WITH CARE

Your ring is crafted from precious metal - strong, but not indestructible. A little mindfulness in how you handle it each day will preserve both the setting and the stone for a lifetime.

When removing your ring, always hold it by the band - never by the setting or around the stone. Gripping the prongs places pressure on the metalwork and can weaken them over time, risking the stone becoming loose.

Avoid touching the stone directly. The natural oils from your skin will transfer onto the surface, dulling its brilliance quickly. Handle the band, and let the stone do what it was made to do - catch the light.

PROTECT WHAT MATTERS

Care & Maintenance

Built to Last a Lifetime

Your Benjamin Rose ring is made to endure crafted from precious metal and set with stones chosen for their beauty and integrity. But even the most meticulous work requires care.

This guide will show you how to protect your ring through everyday wear, when to take it off, how to clean it at home, and when to bring it back to the bench. Follow these simple steps and your ring will remain as remarkable as the day it was made.

When to Take Off Your Ring

It's best to remove your ring each night before bed. Eight hours of wear every night adds considerable stress to the metalwork over time. There is also a risk of claws catching on bedsheets or your bodyweight placing pressure on the band and bending it out of shape.

Physical activity exposes your ring to impact, sweat, and pressure - all of which can damage both the metal and the stone. Remove your ring before any exercise or sport and store it safely until you're done.

Chlorine in pools is harsh on precious metal and can cause long-term damage to both the alloy and any stone settings. Cold water also causes fingers to contract, increasing the risk of your ring slipping off. Always remove it before entering the water.

Household cleaning products - particularly bleach and other abrasive chemicals can corrode precious metal and dull or damage gemstones. Remove your ring before cleaning, even when wearing gloves, as chemicals can seep through.

Gardening and hands-on work expose your ring to dirt, grit, and the risk of impact. Grit is abrasive and can scratch both metal and stone. Remove your ring before any outdoor or manual work

Prolonged exposure to hot water, detergent, and the handling of heavy pots and pans can dull your stone and place unnecessary stress on the setting if you knock it. It takes only a moment to remove your ring at the sink and it's worth it.

Cosmetics, lotions, and perfume build up on the surface of your ring over time, dulling the stone and clogging the setting. Apply these products first, allow them to absorb, and then put your ring on.

AT HOME CARE

How to Clean Your Ring

Everyday wear causes a gradual build-up of skin oils, lotions, and dirt - particularly around and beneath the stone. A simple clean at home every two to three months will keep your ring looking its best between professional services.

What you'll need: warm water, a drop of mild dish soap, a soft toothbrush, and a lint-free cloth.

Start by mixing warm water with a small drop of dish soap in a bowl. Place your ring in the solution and allow it to soak for 20 to 30 minutes. Using the soft toothbrush, gently work around the setting and beneath the stone - this is where build-up concentrates most. Rinse thoroughly under lukewarm running water, then dry with a lint-free cloth.

Avoid ultrasonic cleaners at home, as vibrations can loosen stone settings over time. If your ring needs a deeper clean, bring it in - I offer a complimentary professional clean every 12 months.

INSPECT & MAINTAIN

INSPECT & MAINTAIN

Professional Maintenance

Over time, even the most meticulously crafted ring will show the natural signs of wear. Regular professional maintenance ensures it stays in perfect condition and gives me the opportunity to catch anything that needs attention before it becomes an issue.

Every few months, take a quiet moment to look over your ring. Check for any movement in the stone or signs of wear on the band. If something doesn't feel quite right, bring it into the studio sooner rather than later.

I recommend coming in every 12 months for a complimentary inspection and clean. I'll check every claw and setting, assess the overall condition of your ring, and let you know honestly if anything needs attention. If any work is required, I'll provide a quote before anything proceeds.

Regular care keeps your Benjamin Rose ring looking its best and ensures it remains as enduring as the day it was made.

Ensuring the Perfect Fit

Your ring should slide on with ease and resist slightly when removing - snug enough to stay secure, but comfortable enough to wear all day.

Fingers naturally change size with temperature, time of day, and life changes. If your ring ever feels too tight or too loose, come into the studio sooner rather than later. A poor fit places unnecessary stress on the band and increases the risk of loss.

I offer one complimentary resize within 18 months of purchase. While resizing is straightforward, frequent resizing isn't ideal for the integrity of the ring - so it's always best to ensure the right fit from the beginning.

Store Your Ring Safely

Proper storage protects your ring from scratches and keeps it in excellent condition between wears.

Store your ring separately from other jewellery in a soft-lined jewellery box or ring holder. Metal pieces stored together will inevitably scratch one another - even precious metal.

If you're travelling, keep your ring in a dedicated padded jewellery pouch or case rather than loose in a bag. A little preparation goes a long way in protecting something irreplaceable.

Insurance

Accidents happen - loss, theft, and damage are all possibilities, however unlikely. I strongly recommend insuring your Benjamin Rose ring, particularly in the first year as you become accustomed to wearing it daily.

You can add your ring to an existing home and contents policy, or opt for a specialist jewellery insurance policy which I recommend, as these are tailored specifically to fine jewellery and typically offer broader coverage.

BEYOND THE BENCH

If your ring ever needs attention - a clean, an inspection, a resize, or simply a question answered - don't hesitate to get in touch. Every Benjamin Rose ring is made to endure and my care for you doesn't stop once your ring leaves the bench.
